NOISE FOR NOW is a national initiative that enables performers to connect with, and financially support, grassroots organizations that are dedicated to empowering women and protecting women’s health and abortion rights. NOISE FOR NOW is the link between touring musicians, progressive promoters, and local feminist organizations in cities across the country.
Reproductive health care services, including access to safe and legal abortion, are under attack. NOISE FOR NOW is partnered with Planned Parenthood and the National Network of Abortion Funds to identify states that are most in need of funds to protect reproductive health care and abortion access. By organizing benefit concerts in these markets, NOISE FOR NOW provides a way for performers to use their talents to raise money and send a clear message that women’s rights are human rights.
NOISE FOR NOW began in 2017 with the inaugural benefit concert at the Santa Fe Opera. Proceeds from this concert went to the Santa Fe NOW Action Network, which distributes grants to clinics, abortions funds, and reproductive health education programs in New Mexico. On the heels of that successful event, NOISE FOR NOW became a non-profit organization dedicated to organizing benefit concerts across the country. Musicians traveling through areas that are most adversely affected by anti-choice legislation can now support the heroes on the ground that fight for and provide access to health care and abortion everyday.
Artists that have already participated include Andrew Bird, Bon Iver, Fleet Foxes, Grizzly Bear, A Hawk and a Hacksaw, Heather Trost, Lower Dens, Portugal. The Man, Spoon, St. Vincent, Tune Yards, and TV on the Radio.
Organizations that have benefited include the Access Reproductive Care - Southeast, Mississippi Reproductive Freedom Fund, Planned Parenthood Southeast, the Pro-Choice Safety Network Fund, Yellowhammer Fund, Santa Fe NOW, and Santa Fe NOW Action Network which has distributed concert proceeds to Girls Inc., Indigenous Women Rising, La Familia Medical Center, Mariposa Fund, Planned Parenthood of New Mexico, Texas Equal Access Fund, and Youth Shelters.
WHAT IS A NOISE FOR NOW SHOW?
A NOISE FOR NOW show is one in which all or a portion of the proceeds from the show go to the partnering pro-choice organization and/or health care clinic. Musicians recover the travel and staffing costs associated with playing a show.
The partnering organization(s) may have a presence at the event if they choose, in order to distribute literature about their organization, recruit members, and/or sell merchandise related to the organization. The organization will NOT be authorized to sell merchandise that makes use of the musicians’ name or image, or is in conflict with the musicians’ own merchandise.
